REMINDER FROM THE OAKMONT FIRE COMPANY
Date: 12/6/07 As the winter season approaches we would like to take a moment to remind all residents to have your heating system and flue pipes cleaned or checked. It has become all to familiar to the Township's emergency responders the effects of CO (Carbon Monoxide) poisoning. Most recently we answered a call where 9 people were sickened by the build up of of CO (Carbon Monoxide) in a residence that they required immediate transport/treatment at a local hospital. In addition to having your heating system checked you can also install a relatively inexpensive CO detector(s) in your home. ASSIST TO CO. 3 ON HOUSE FIRE
Date: 10/16/07 Engine 11 & Ladder 1 assist Company 3 on house fire At approximately 10 pm the call was received for the RIT team and the Ladder Company for ventilation. Engine 11 and Ladder 1 made the response. Brookline (Company 3) was operating at the scene of a house fire in the 1600 blk of Woodmere Way. Once on scene the crews of the engine and ladder split and performed their respective duties. The engine and ladder returned to service at approximately 1145 pm.

AN UNUSUAL AUTO CRASH
Date: 10/3/07 Just before 1045 hours E-1,R-1,R-5,Medic 1082 and 56-7 were dispatched to 940 Haverford Road for an auto accident with entrapment. While the units were en-route, dispatch advised units that "an SUV was on top of a small vehicle." Medic 108-2 arrived and confirmed no entrapment. Engine 12 proceeded in and stood by for the tow truck to arrive. You just don't see them like this too often...

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK DEMONSTRATION
Date: 10/12/07 As in many past years, the Oakmont Fire Company will host our annual Fire Prevention open house and demonstration at the Grasslyn Park on October 12th, 2007. The night will begin at 7pm. So come on out and join us in fire prevention.

CONDOLENCES TO THE SHARON HILL FC (DELCO STATION #9)
Date: 10/1/07 From the Board of Directors, Officers and Crew of the Oakmont Fire Company, our sincerest condolences goes out to the Sharon Hill Fire Company for the loss of FF Michael Reagan. Michael made the ultimate sacrifice while answering alarm #286. Should the Sharon Hill Fire Company need any assistance during this sad time, help is only a phone call away. Michael, Rest in peace. Members of Station #9, stay strong.

9/11 REMEMBERANCE AND TRIBUTE
Date: 9/11/07 The annual gathering of the active crew and their families was held at the station. The tremendous affect that this day still holds in our hearts is brought out on this evening. The ceremony contains a small prayer by the Fire Department chaplain and finishes up with small individual flags placed in the side garden in tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11/01.

ENGINE 11 & 12 CALLED FOR MANPOWER
Date: 9/10/07 At approximately 0915 hours the call was received for Engine 11 & 12 to assist Company 2 at the Llanerch Quarry with manpower. Llanerch crews were fighting a building fire and needed some assistance with manpower and water supply. The Engines were available in about an hour.

ENGINE 11 ASSISTS CO. 3 WITH RIT
Date: 9/1/07 At approximately 12 pm the call was received for Engine 11 to assist Company 3 in the 200 Blk. of Kathmere Road. They were fighting a stubborn attic fire. The crew of 5 arrived and set-up for RIT operations. Fortunately, our services were not needed and Engine 11 returned to service in just under an hour.

FIREFIGHTER GRANT RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Date: 7/13/07 In late June winners of the scholarship grants were announced by the Main Line Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce works closely with several fire companies that serve the Main Line in an attempt to bolster recruitment of new firefighters. The applications for the scholarship were received from 14 fire companies.

Stephen was selected, along with 4 other volunteer firefighters to receive the $500.00 scholarship. In the picture are (from the left): Jack Healy, Board Member/Past Chief OFC, John Stretch, President B.O.D. OFC, Stephen Grant, Matt Donahoe, The Addis Group, Bill Hatton, Fire Chief OFC.


4TH OF JULY PARADE RESULTS
Date: 7/4/07 The following document has the parade results for the 4th of July parade. Oakmont Fire Company participated in several parades on the 4th of July including parades in South Ardmore, Coopertown, Merwood, and Grasslyn Field. Congratulations to all the participants!

NEW MEMBERS
Date: 6/12/07 The Board of Directors accepted the following new members to the Oakmont Fire Company at the Monthly meeting of June 12, 2007. Christopher Baca and Gary D'Achille. Gary is a Junior Fire Fighter. The new additions to the fire company had some influence from their family as both, Gary and Christopher fathers were active member at Oakmont in the past. We welcome Christopher and Gary to the fire house!

TOWNSHIP WIDE DRILL RESCHEDULED
Date: 6/24/07 The Firefighter Safety and Awareness/ Electrical Emergencies drill originally scheduled for June 10th, 2007 has been re-scheduled to June 24th, 2007. Thanks for your understanding.

VEHICLE ACCIDENT WITH 2 TRAPPED
Date: 4/20/07 Just after 3 pm EMS units were dispatched to the 3500 blk of Darby Road for an auto accident with injuries. Quickly thereafter Police reported entrapment bringing Engine 12 (E38-2), Rescue 1 (Rescue38) and Rescue 5 (Rescue 56). The crews arrived and went into action. Engine 12's crew rapidly stabilized the vehicle and popped a door to gain access. EMS removed that subject and transported him to an awaiting PENNStar helicopter for a flight to HUP. The second victim was stable and a another door was popped on the second vehicle to gain access and remove the female victim. She was also transported to HUP via 34-7 and Medic 108-2. FF McGIBNEY UPDATE
Date: 4/1/07 As reported earlier FF Joe McGibney was awaiting deployment back to Iraq. He e-mailed the station to advise he is currently enroute to Iraq via England, Ireland and then eventually to Iraq. Good Luck Joe and Be Safe.

PROBATIONARY FIREFIGHTERS START FIREFIGHTER 1
Date: 3/20/07 Tonight, Jr. FF's Christopher Smith, D J Marino and Kevin Sweeney all started the process of receiving instruction to be a nationally certified Firefighter. The class is held here in Haverford Township and saves the Jr. FF's the travel time to Doylestown two nights a week. Good luck to the Jr.'s. You guys will do just fine!

FF McGIBNEY AWAITING DEPLOYMENT TO IRAQ
Date: 3/8/07 Firefighter Joe McGibney, currently in North Carolina receiving training, is waiting to be redeployed to Iraq. He tells us that he is getting put into Baghdad. He is recently married to his wife, Bonnie. When he heard he was getting called back into action it expedited his wedding. We hear it took only days to plan and execute. The wedding took place on the steps of the Art Museum in Philadelphia. From the entire crew at the Oakmont Fire Company, thank you, good luck and return to us safely. Bonnie, please do not hesitate to call on the Firehouse, if you should need anything!!

OAKMONT PARTICIPATES IN OPERATION 6 SAVE-A-LIFE
Date: 1/4/07 Once again a few members attended the annual Operation 6 Save-a-Life held at the Philadelphia Fire Academy. Chief Bill Hatton, Fire Police Captain Mike Parks and Captain Larry Howard attended the event which was topped off with lunch. This is a campaign aimed at reducing the number fire fatalities through a free smoke detector giveaway. Kidde, A long time sponsor, dontated over 20,000 smoke detectors to be given away to residents in the tri-state region. Other sponsors of the event include ABC Channel 6, Independence Blue Cross, Del Val Toyota dealers, Geico to name a few. OAKMONT RECEIVES FIREMANS FUND GRANT
Date: 12/16/06 Today representatives from The Firemans Fund Insurance Group were on hand to present Chief Hatton and President Stretch with a grant in the amount of $5,000.00. After a few words about why the Firemans Fund gives grants to local fire companies yearly the ceremonial check was presented. The check is earmarked for a updating our vehicle rescue equipment. Other recipients in this area included: George Clay Fire Co. (West Conshohocken) and the Philadelphia Fire Department.

CONDOLENCES TO THE ARDMORE & NARBERTH FIRE CO.
Date: 12/15/06 Today the Ardmore & Narberth Fire Companies laid to rest one of their own. Thomas Hays passed on after returning from a call. Engine 12 covered the Merion Fire Co., so the members of Ardmore could pay their respects to their brother. The Oakmont Fire Company sends their condolences to both companies during this sad time.

SANTA'S COMING TO TOWN
Date: 12/17/06 Santa will be riding through the Oakmont Fire district on Sunday, December 17, 2006 from 12 noon until 5 PM. Listen up for the sirens and holiday music. When you see the fire truck coming down your block, your family can come curbside and meet Santa and his helpers. We look forward to seeing you!

COMPANY 1, ENGINE 3, AND ARDMORE GET A QUICK KNOCK
Date: 12/13/06 Just before 1:30pm the assignment was dispatched to the 2600 blk of County Line Road for a kitchen fire. This brought Company 1, Engine 3 and Merion of Ardmore. On the arrival of Oakmont 6 (McGoldrick) he advised incoming units of a working fire in the kitchen area. Crews from Engine 11, Ladder 1 and Engine 31 went into service with one 1 3/4" hand line, getting a quick knock on the fire. The fire was contained to a small area around the stove and sink. Overhaul was conducted to prevent the spread of any fire. The companies were made available just before 3 pm. RESCUE 1 ASSISTS COMPANY 5
Date: 12/11/06 Just before 12:30 the rescue assignment was dispatched to the 300 blk of Maryland Avenue for an auto accident. This brought E-5, R-5, R-1, 56-7, Medic 108 on the assignment. Manoa 5(Norman) arrived on location and advised of a vehicle in a yard overturned with one patient entrapped. The crews established stabilization and performed hazard control, due to the gasoline leaking. The crews had the patient removed from the wreckage and was transported to the awaiting medical helicopter for a short flight to the University of Pennsylvania Trauma Center in Philadelphia. ENGINE 11 ASSISTS ARDMORE FC
Date: 12/8/06 Just around 3 pm a request came in for Engine 11 to respond to W. Spring Avenue, Lower Merion Twp., to assist Ardmore FC on a house fire. On arrival Engine 11's crew relieved the RIT team and assumed their duties. Once on scene the crews got a handle on the fire. Engine 11 was returned to service within the hour. ENGINE 11 RESPONDS ON 2ND ALARM
Date: 12/5/06 Just after 8:45 am, Company 3, Engine 2 and Rescue 5 were operating at the scene of a house fire in the 100 block of Myrtle Avenue. Brookline 5 requested a 2nd alarm struck. This response added Engine 11, Tower 2 and Rescue 4 to the assignment. On the arrival of Engine 11 the crew assisted on the fireground with some overhaul. COMPANY 1 & ENGINE 5 MAKE QUICK WORK OF GARAGE FIRE
Date: 11/26/06 Shortly after 8pm, Company 1 and Engine 5 (Manoa FC) were dispatched to the rear of 48 W. Eagle Road for a garage fire. On the arrival of Oakmont 8 (Straub), he reported a 2.5 story garage approximately 25' x 75' with heavy smoke showing and Engine 11 was ordered into the rear alleyway for fire attack. After forcible entry was made it was discovered that the extremely smokey fire was contained to a truck inside of the garage. Ladder 1 and Engine 12's crews assisted with entry and ventilation. LIFE MEMBER PASSES AWAY
Date: 11/6/06 It is with deep regret that the Oakmont Fire Company announces the passing of Life Member Norman Weintruab. Norm served in the capacity of Fire Police for Oakmont and Ambulance Driver/Attendant for the Llanerch Fire Company. Norm always went above and beyond anything he did for both organizations. He will be missed greatly. Our condolences go to the Weintraub Family in their time of grief. Thank you for all you have done, Norm. Rest in peace.

FIRE PREVENTION OPEN HOUSE
Date: 10/13/06 To cap off the observence of Fire Prevention Week the Oakmont Fire Co. held its annual Fire Prevention demonstration. This night signifies the end of a week of education throughout many schools in our district. The crowd was exposed to how firefighters handle a car fire and a house fire. A short movie was played inside showing some history of the Oakmont Fire Company. Children were also taught how tostay low in a fire and crawl to safety with the smoke maze. Thank you to Delaware County 911 for demonstrating "Mobile1", a mobile communications truck used at fire scenes. Though the PENNSTAR medical helicopter did not make it, we consider the evening a success. Everyone who attended was treated to soft pretzels and drinks (courtesy of WAWA, Inc.). Thank you for attending and we hope to see you next year. Please remember Fire Safety is a year round practice that starts in the home. A special thanks to the Brookline and Manoa Fire Companies for their last minute assistance with some equipment.

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
Date: 10/9/06 to 10/14/06 Fire Prevention Week is once again upon us. All this week your volunteers will be visiting several different schools to reinforce the importance of Fire Prevention. The week will be capped off with an open house at Grasslyn Park, Grasslyn Avenue & Ralston Avenue begining at 6:30 pm. The open house will include a visit from the PENNSTAR medical helicopter.While visiting us be sure to pick up any literature we may have to help you with Fire Prevention in the home. Throughout the evening we will demonstrate various scenerios of firefighting skills. Hope to see you there!

QUICK WORK IN THE EARLY HOURS
Date: 10/8/06 Just before 5 am, Company 1 and Engine 3 (Brookline) were dispatched to the 600 Blk of Georges Lane for a reported house fire. On arrival of Engine 11 a smoke condition was evident from the rear of the house. An 1 3/4" handline was placed into service quickly and crews knocked the visible fire quickly. A supply line was established by Engine 12 from the hydrant at Georges & Belmont. It appears that the homeowner disposed of fireplace ashes and placed them under the rear deck. The fire partially consumed the deck and minor extension into the fire building was experienced. The attached twin had minor smoke damage. The companies were returned to service at 6:30 am. Nice work once again by the crews on scene.

ENGINE 11 & 12 ASSIST ARDMORE FC
Date: 10/1/06 Shortly before 0230 hours the call came in for Engine 11 to assist the Merion Fire Co. of Ardmore with the RIT at a house fire. The call was also extended to Engine 12 to provide cover-up to Merion at their station. 9-11-01 REMEMBERANCE
Date: 9/11/06 Tonight the members and their families gathered at the fire station to take time and remember the selfless individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice and are no longer with us. The tragic events that unfolded that day will not be forgotten. MONTHLY TOWNSHIP DRILL: FORCIBLE ENTRY REFRESHER
Date: 9/10/06 Crews spent the day practicing forcible entry techniques at Haverford State Hospital. The crews also worked on breaching walls for emergency firefighter exits. OVERWELMING TURNOUT FOR TONY MAZZANOBILE BENEFIT
Date: 9/9/06 Tonight members of the Oakmont & Narberth Fire Co.'s held a benefit for a fellow brother firefighter with terminal cancer, Tony Mazzanobile. The turnout for the event was tremendous. The event was deemed a success by the end of the evening. Many fellow firefighters and friends of Tony were in attendance and enjoyed good food, cold drinks and the camaraderie of many friends. Tony was the center of much attention throughout the evening. As of this posting the final numbers are not in , but it appears to be in the neighborhood of $15,000.00 that was raised via a silent auction and cash donations. The members of the Oakmont and Narberth Fire Co.'s thank all at attended and wish that everyone would patronize the event supporters (click here for list). ADDITION TO THE BARRETT FAMILY
Date: 9/7/06 At 08:59 hours a new arrival made her presence known in the Barrett Family. Morgan Santina Barrett is the new daughter of Becky and Gene Barrett. Morgan, Mom & Dad are all doing well. Congratulations and Good Luck Mom & Dad from the Officers and Crew.

MONTHLY TOWNSHIP DRILL: ENGINE CO. OPS REFRESHER
Date: 8/20/06 Today members of the Oakmont, Llanerch and Manoa Fire companies went over basic Engine Company Operations with a focus on on-going size-up and initial water supply. The crews used several different combinations of supply lines, hand lines and master stream devices. The afternoon was rounded off with a 2 man team 1 3/4" hand line scramble. The winners were allowed to relax while the rest of the crews cleaned up. The crews returned to Station #1 for lunch. Thanks to all that attended and we will see you next month.

ENGINE 11 ASSISTS MANOA w/ RIT AND OVERHAUL
Date: 8/6/06 At approximately 0440 hours the call came in for the RIT to assist Company 5 (Manoa) with a house fire in the 1700 Blk of Josie Lane. On arrival of Engine 11, the operations were still being setup. The RIT crew did setup exterior lighting for the other crews working. The crew stood by until we were released as a RIT team and were put to work overhauling the fire building. The crew of Engine 11 returned to the station at 0830 hours. MONTHLY TOWNSHIP DRILL: VEHICLE EXTRICATION
Date: 7/23/06 Members from Oakmont and Manoa Fire Companies participated in this month's drill. Members were familiarized with the new Rescue 5 and were given the opportunity to put the new truck to the test. The members were given 4 cars to use their acquired knowledge in vehicle rescue. The new Rescue 5 was able to handle the use of 5 hydraulic rescue tools at one time, without missing a beat. Afterwards the crew retired to Station 5 for lunch. ENGINE 11 ASSISTS BRYN MAWR FC IN RADNOR TWP
Date: 7/4/06 Shortly before 10 pm the call came in to assist Bryn Mawr Fire Co. (Montgomery County Station 23) in the 600 block of Radnor Valley Drive on the house fire. The engine crew arrived and was put to work overhauling and wetting down hot spots. Also on scene were the Radnor Fire Co., Ardmore Fire Co., Gladwyne Fire Co., Penn Wynne Fire Co., King of Prussia Fire Co. Engine 11 returned to service just before 11pm. OAKMONT CELEBRATES THE
4TH OF JULY WITH OUR NEIGHBORS
Date: 7/4/06 For nearly 20 years the Oakmont Fire Company has celebrated the 4th of July with our friends from the surrounding neighborhood. This year was no exception. The large turnout for the annual parade and festivities at Grasslyn Park was a blast. Everyone who attend was treated to food, beverages and ice-pops. The festivities included foot races and were concluded with the hose down of the children, always a favorite of the kids. The fire company also attended several other parades in the fire district. Thanks for attending and we will look forward to next year. The members of the company returned to the station for our own little gathering of family and friends. It was capped off with a spectacular fireworks show.

4TH OF JULY REMINDER
Date: 7/4/06 Reminder to all residents, this year's 4th of July activities will start at the firehouse at 11:15 for the parade sign in. The parade will start at 11:30. Activities will then be held at Graslyn Field where there will be food, beverages, and prizes.

RESCUE 1 COVERS STATION 19 (LANSDOWNE)
Date: 6/9/06 Shortly before 3pm the request came in for Rescue 1 to cover up at Lansdowne Fire Company. Lansdowne was battling a stubborn house fire at 111 S. Wycombe Avenue. This incident is tragically ended with a fatality. The Rescue covered Station 19 along with Engine 63 (Green Ridge) and Quint 06 (Collingdale). ENGINE 11 RESPONDS AS RIT
Date: 6/5/06 Company 1 was summoned around 10:40 hrs today to Assist Co. 5 with our RIT at 126 S. Eagle Road. On arrival the crew performed all RIT functions with regards to size-up. After the incident was placed under control the crew of Engine 11 assisted the interior crews with extensive overhaul of the basement. the Company returned to service just after 12:07 hours. MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE
Date: 5/29/06 Today, members gathered for our annual Memorial Day service. The service is held to honor veterans who have served in wars, and honored two of our members who have died in the line of duty at Oakmont Fire Company, Captain Martin Basile and Chief Ernie Heimberger.

LANSDOWNE TRIPLE HOUSING
Date: 5/20/06 Members attended the Lansdowne Fire Company triple housing today. Yet again another fine day weather wise. The members thank Lansdowne for the invite to celebrate. While the ladder was there it received a 1st place trophy for Best equipped and Most functional Aerial Ladder 1984-1995. Photo courtesy of Robb Ware.

OAKMONT ACHIEVES SILVER LEVEL CERTIFICATION
Date: 5/15/06 Recently, the Oakmont Fire Company was recognized by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner for achieving the Silver level of certification. The Silver level is achieved by having atleast 75% of our members certified at the National Firefighter I level.

WEEKEND DRILL RESCHEDULED
Date: 5/10/06 All members concerned the upcoming drill on May 21st, 2006 is going to be rescheduled for July 2006. Sorry for the inconveinence. Hope to see you in June for the next regularly scheduled drill.

CONGRATULATIONS TO RADNOR FIRE COMPANY
Date: 5/6/06 Today members attended the parade and celebration of Radnor Fire Company's 100th Anniversary. The weather couldn't have been better. Oakmont did recieve a trophy for 2nd place Best Appearing Company, marching with 15 members or more, without music. The Officers and crew congratulate the Radnor Fire Company on their historical milestone and thank them for the invitation.

MONTHLY TOWNSHIP DRILL
Date: 4/2/06 Today members of the Oakmont, Llanerch and Manoa Fire Companies attended the monthly drill held at Station 5 and Haverford State Hospital. This months topics included: Personal Accoutnability Systems and Risk & Hazard Identification. After the lecture portion the crews went to Haverford State Hospital to work on Water Supply, forcible entry and ICS. Afterwards, the crews went to Station #1 for lunch.

2006 DRILL SEASON IS UNDERWAY
Date: 3/19/06 Today, 11 members of the Company attended the first of many monthly drills that was held at the Manoa Firehouse and the Township Drill Tower. This month's topic was Carbon Monoxide Detector Responses. The second half of the drill was spent at the tower practicing Engine and Truck Company operations. Thanks to all who attended and we are eager to do it again next month.

OAKMONT RUNS A LINE AT A HAY TRUCK FIRE
Date: 3/1/06 At approximately 1:15pm the company was dispatched to the area of College Avenue & Darby Road for a hay truck on fire. On arrival of the Police, they confirmed a hay truck on fire. Engine 12 went into service with 2 - 1.75" handlines and a booster line. A supply line was laid to a nearby hydrant. The company returned to service in approximately 45 minutes. At 01:58 Company 1 and Engine 3 were dispatched to 2323 E. Darby Road for a fire in the building. Police were quickly on scene to report a working fire and a child trapped in apartment #110. Engine 12 was ordered to the rear of the building for fire attack. Engine 31 established water supply. Ladder 1 went into service immediately rescuing elderly victims from the upper floors. Oakmont 5 (38-9) immediately ordered a 2nd alarm. This brought in Engine 2 (Llanerch), Ladder 3 (Brookline) and Rescue 4 (Bon-Air). Oakmont 5 also requested all 4 EMS unit on scene for rescue. Engine 12 and Rescue 1's crew also immediately went into service with rescue and support functions. Ladder 3 was ordered to the front of the building. Engine 21 and Engine 22 and Rescue 4's crew started a primary search of the upper floors. As more rescues were made victims were taken to the Township Building and the Cheese Club for shelter. Many of the victims were elderly and Command ordered the 1st alarm of the County EMS box bringing 03-7 (Clifton Heights), 15-7 (Radnor), 16-7 (Yeadon), 41-7 (Newtown Square), 53-7 (Marple Twp. Ambulance Corps.). Engine 41 (Bon-Air) and MontCo Engine 25 (Merion Fire Co. of Ardmore) provided cover-up at Oakmont while the Companies were operating. MontCo Medic 313-1 and Medic 109 provided EMS cover-up for the Township during this incident.

During the primary search of the original fire apartment a victim was located and removed to Delaware County Hospital for treatment, however despite the efforts of Fire, EMS and Police crews the victim's injuries proved to be fatal. The Red Cross did arrive and with the assistance of the Haverford Twp. School District the victims were taken from the temporary shelter to the Brookline Fire House (Hall) to make arrangements for housing and food. The fire is still under investigation by the Haverford Twp. Fire Marshal, Haverford Twp Police, Delaware County Fire Marshal and the State Police Fire Marshal.

RESCUE 1 COVERS LANSDOWNE (STATION 19)
Date: 2/15/06 Shortly after 2pm, Rescue 1, Engine 63 (Green Ridge), and Quint 06 (Collingdale) were dispatched to cover at Lansdowne Fire Co.(Station 19) while Lansdowne was battling a blaze at Baltimore/Wycombe Avenues. ENGINE 11 GOES TO WORK IN RADNOR
Date: 1/21/06 Around 7pm this evening a request was made for Engine 11 and Engine 53(Manoa) to respond and assist Radnor(Co.15) at 900 Newtown Road on a structure fire. NEW ADDITION TO WINTZ FAMILY

ENGINE 11 RELOCATES TO RADNOR (STATION 15)
Date: 1/15/06 At 05:59 hours a request was made for Engine 11 to cover-up at Radnor Fire Co. (Station 15). Radnor was battling a stubborn blaze in the northern section of their local. They had numerous companies assisting them at this blaze while several other fire incidents were happening in Radnor Twp. The other incidents were handled by Manoa, Bryn Mawr, Broomall and King of Prussia. While on the cover up Engine 11 was dispatched with Broomall Engine 53-2 to a building fire at 99 Kynlyn Rd. (Tredyffrin Twp., Chester County). The assignment was handled by Engine 11, Engine 53-2 (Broomall) and Engine 47-1 (King of Prussia). It turned out to be a malfunctioning heater. Around 6:30pm this evening, Company 1 and Engine 5 (Manoa) were dispatched to the 2500 blk of Prescott Road for a house fire. While enroute dispatch advised responding units that all occupants were accounted for and were at a neighbor's house. Oakmont 5 (Chief Hatton) arrived on location with heavy smoke showing from the 1st floor of a 2 1/2 story single family dwelling. Engine 11 was ordered to go into service with an 1.75" handline. Engine 11 and Engine 53 arrived almost at the same time and the respective crews went into action. The fire was quickly extinguished and the fire was held to the living room and front of the basement. No injuries were reported on scene. The company was back in service by 8pm. OAKMONT PARTICIPATES IN OPERATION 6 "SAVE A LIFE"
Date: 1/5/06 For the last 5 years the company has participated in the Channel 6 free smoke detector giveaway appropriately deemed: Operation 6 "Save-a-Life". The short ceremony is held each year at the Philadelphia Fire Academy, where Channel 6 and it's sponsors donate 15,000 smoke detectors to local fire departments in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. The event is capped off with lunch and a photo session with the Channel 6 on-air personalities. This year Steve Tiberio, Mike Parks and Larry Howard attended the popular event. SANTA VISITS COMPANY 1'S LOCAL
Date: 12/18/05 The members of the company escorted Santa and his helpers around the district, as they have for many years. The members spent most of the day visiting different neighborhoods spreading holiday cheer. Santa and his helpers would personally like to thank the Oakmont Fire Company for their continued assistance throughout the years.

RESCUE 1 COVERS LANSDOWNE (STATION 19)
Date: 11/29/05 Shortly after 11pm, Rescue 1 was requested to cover up Station 19, Lansdowne Fire Company, while they were battling a stubborn house fire in Yeadon Boro. The Rescue covered the station along with Engine 63 (Green Ridge) and Ladder 20 (Garrettford-Drexel Hill). Tonight, at 5:10 pm, Company 1 (Oakmont) and Engine 3 (Brookline) were dispatched to the 2300 blk of Belmont Avenue for a house fire. On the arrival of Engine 11, it was rapidly discovered that a 2nd floor rear bedroom was off. The first-in crews quickly knocked the blaze and contained the fire to the bedroom. Engine 31 established water supply and crews from Ladder 1, Engine 12 and Rescue 1 performed several support functions on the fireground. A special call was made to 34-7 (Llanerch EMS) to stand-by on scene. One Firefighter was transported to the hospital for a minor injury. The companies were made available at 6:02 pm.

ELECTRICAL FIRE
Date: 11/14/05 Members of Company 1 were drilling at the Quadrangle with the Buildings Engineering Department when at 19:55, Company 1 (Oakmont) and Engine 3 (Brookline) were dispatched to 8 Campbell Ave. (Lamplighter Restaurant) for an electrical fire. Units arrived to discover an electrical outlet in the kitchen sparking. The utilities were secured and the Fire Marshal was notified. Units cleared the scene at 20:43.

COMPANIES 1, 2, 4, & 5 PARTICIPATE IN TERRORISM DRILL
Date: 11/11/05 At approximately 9 AM, Ladder 1 (Oakmont), Engine 22 (Llanerch), Rescue 4 (Bon Air), Rescue 5 (Manoa) participated in the Terrorism Drill at Upper Darby HS. The Township apparatus that participated was just a small portion of all the agencies represented on scene. Though it was mainly a police drill, this type of drill shows that everyone can work together. While waiting for an assignment, members from Oakmont & Manoa just about witnessed a motor vehicle crash at State Road and Harper Avenue. Crews summoned the Police and EMS then performed patient assessment, hazard control and traffic control on scene. Assisting units were Upper Darby PD, Medic 103-7, Medic 103.

WIRES DOWN WITH ROADWAY BURNING
Date: 11/10/05 Shortly before 10 AM, the Oakmont Fire Co. was dispatched to 532 College Avenue for wires down across the roadway. Engine 11 was advised that it appeared to be a 3,300 volt line down across College Avenue and currently burning the roadway. A tree had come down in the windy conditions causing the wire support arms to split at the pole. As you can see in the pictures, the electricity penetrated the roadway and the curb causing extensive damage. Once PECO secured the power, the fire was extinguished and PennDOT responded to repair the road. The Company was made available in about an hour.

TRIAL RUN FOR UPCOMING TERRORIST DRILL
Date: 10/16/05 Members of the Company attended an informational and hands-on session for an upcoming Terrorist Drill. The session was held at Haverford State Hospital. Many Police, Fire & EMS agencies were in attendence. The actual drill will be held on November 11th, 2005 at Upper Darby High School.

OAKMONT WINS AT GIBRALTAR FIRE CO. (BERKS CO.) PARADE
Date: 9/30/05 The members went to the Gibraltar Fire Co. Housing/Fair with Engine 11 and Ladder 1. The hard work put into preparation paid off and the crews brought home a few trophies. Gibraltar Fire Co. is the fire company that purchased Oakmont's 1983 Pirsch Pumper and 1977 Pirsch Ladder truck. Good job to all that helped out.

OAKMONT REMEMBERS FDNY BROTHERS
Date: 9/11/05 Members of the Oakmont Fire Company held a short memorial service with Father Marino (Firehouse Chaplin) at the Oakmont firehouse. The service was in memory of the 343 Fire Department of New York firefighters who gave their life on September 11, 2001. During the service, a bell was rung to honor our fallen brothers.

At 10:45am, Company 1 (Oakmont) and Engine 31 (Brookline) were dispatched to the 2600 blk of Chestnut Avenue for a reported basement fire. Police arrived shortly after dispatch and reported a working fire in the basement. Engine 11 arrived on scene and went into service with a handline. Engine 31 established water supply and also assisted in ventilation. The fire was knocked down quickly and contained to the laundry area of the basement. Companies were available in about an hour.
