Firehouse Progress

For those who are eagerly following the new firehouse progress, here is what has taken place so far. In mid-July the contractors started to demolish the old firehouse. From late-July until mid-august the contractor removed the old concrete and prepped the site for new footings and a foundation. Within a week the contractor should be building the cinder block walls to form a shell. The pictures attached to this update depict a transition from mid-july up until now. Stay tuned for further updates and once again thank you to everyone for your understanding and support during this time.

GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY

Today the Oakmont Fire Company held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the new fire house. Joining the volunteers were Commissioners Oliva, Heilmann, Rushforth and Township Fire Marshal Marino. The short ceremony was topped off by speeches from the Oakmont Fire Company President John Stretch and Fire Chief Robert J. “Mags” McGoldrick. This event brings the much anticipated building demolition a bit closer. Demolition is tentatively scheduled to begin around July 23rd through the 25th. Stay tuned throughout the summer for progress reports on the demolition and construction. Or come by and take a look in person the fire house site is located at 23 West Benedict Avenue.

QUICK WORK IN THE MORNING

At 06:45 hours Company 38 and Engine 35 were dispatched to the 100 block of Stockton Road for a basement fire. When police arrived they reported heavy smoke showing. EMS was added to the assignment as a precaution. 38-9 arrived and assumed command. Quick work by the first-in crews kept the fire confined to the basement area. The companies were returned to service at 08:30 hours.

CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER!

Congratulations are in order for Angela, Christopher and Dan Wintz. They are the proud parents of a new baby girl. Alison Daniele Wintz was brought into this world at 9:59 am and tipped the scales at 8 lb. 2 ounces. All are doing well. Good luck to big brother Christopher!

As we have done for the last 20 + years the Oakmont Fire Company celebrated the 4th of July in typical fashion. Aside from attending other civic organization parades, we held our own parade from our temporary headquarters to the Grasslyn Field. Friends and neighbors were treated to hot dogs, soft pretezels, refreshments and a favorite of the little ones….ice pops! Aside from a few passing showers, the day was, as usual, deemed a success. Thanks to all of our friends and neighbors for your continued support and we’ll see you all next year!
