Company 38 Trains in House 34 before an Evening Call

On Monday March 21st, Company 38 traveled to house 34 (Llanerch Fire Co.) to use the maze facility for confined space training. Not only was the training a great opportunity for the fire fighters to gain valuable experience but the company responded to a small fire in a dwelling on the 2700 block of Chestnut ave. The dispatch came in at 20:25 and all company apparatus responded to handle the call. Upon arrival firefighters reported the fire to be out and assisted the homeowners with clean-up. 

Morning Vehicle Fire

Just after 0700 hours Saturday, March 17th company 38 was dispatched to Ellis and Woodleigh roads to assist company 56 with a vehicle on fire. The original dispatch was for company 56 to Lawrence and Ellis. Upon arrival, Squad 56 and 56-9 (Chief Norman) were advised by fireboard that the vehicle had been driven into Oakmonts local and Squad 38 responded with Engine 38 and Rescue 38 following. Ambulance 56-7 was also on seen.

Company Responds to Vehicle into Gas Station

February 20th, 2011

Shortly after 18:00 on Sunday, Company 38 was dispatched for an accident with entrapment/vehicle into a building at the Exxon gas station on Haverford and Eagle along with ambulance 34-7 and Medic 109. As company 38 worked on the exrication of one person, the assistance of Medic 108 and ambulance 56-7 was requested for additional patients. After a quick exrication was completed, one patient was flown by PENNSTAR 1 to the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania.

Morning RIT Run

 

February 10th, 2011

At roughly 09:45 hours that Thursday, companies 34, 35 and 56 were dispatched for a dwelling fire with reports of smoke showing on the 300 block of Manoa rd. Haverford Car 1 arrived on seen and confirmed reports while also requesting that company 38 be dispatched as the Rapid Intervention Team. Fire was placed under control at roughly 10:45 and companies completed overhaul by mid-day.

Early Morning Entrapment

February 9th, 2011

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, company 38 was dispatched for an accident with partial ejection and possible entrapment in the area of 3400 block of Darby road, along with ambulance 56-7 and Medic 53 . Squad 38 arrived quickly and was followed by Rescue and Engine 38 to safely remove two patients one of which was flown by PENNSTAR 1 to the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania before company 38 became available again.

Early morning 2 Alarmer

Just after 1am, Company 34, 35, Rescue 56,Rit 38 Ambulance 34-7, and Medic 108 for the report of a dwelling fire.  34-9 (Roberts) arrived on location reporting heavy fire through all three floors of the single family dwelling.  Immediately a 2nd alarm was struck bringing Full Company 38, Rit 56 and 58 for the Air bank.  Crews set up exterior operations due to the amount of fire and no immediate life threat .  The fire was placed under control at the 50 minute mark. Extensive overhaul took place after in order to determine the cause of the fire.

3 Vehicle Accident, One with Entrapment

Around 1530 Hrs on the 27th,  The call came out for an accident with entrapment, with the vehicle reported to be on fire at Township Line and Darby Road  near the Kohls entrance.  This brought out Company 34, Ambulance 34-7, Rescue, Squad, and Ambulance 56-7 , Rescue and Squad 38 along with Medic 108, 108A and 108-9.  Also making the response were Ambulance 56-7A, HTPD, HTBF Fire Police and Haverford Car 1.  The patient was quickly extricated from the car in just under 10 minutes and was taken to HUP.

Working Dwelling Fire

On October 20th, Comapnies 38 and 56 along with Medic 108 were sent for a dwelling fire on Pheasant Hill Drive, in the Fox Fields section .  Upon Arrival 38-12(Straub) Estatblished the Oakmont Command and upgraded the assignment with fire and smoke showing from the roof.  This brought in company 35 as well.  Engine and Squad 38 crews took the interior attack while ladder 35 took the roof.  The fire was quickly brought under control with minimal damage.  Crews remained on scene for just over an hour to check for extension.

Confirmed Entrapment

Just after midnight on the 29th, A motor vehicle accident with confirmed entrapment occurred bringing  Company 38, Ambulance 347, 347A and 567, Medic 108, Medic 313 .  With Medics on location requesting to expedite, Squad 38 arrived on scene and quickly went into service, stabilizing the car and then removing a door and center frame of the car.It took just over 20 minutes to remove the first patient due to the condition of the car, the patient was then quickly airlifted by  PennSTAR to The University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.  Unfortunately the second patient had succumbed to his injuries and pronounced dead at the scene.  The fire company remained at the scene to assist in lighting and clean up for the police investigation.  Other units on scene included Rescue 38, Engine 38, Utility 34, HTPD, RTPD,LMPD.
