Electric lines down with brush fire
Just after 1800 hours on March 12th Company 38 was dispatched to Eagle Road and Hillcrest Avenue for a brush fire. While enroute we were advised that a transmission line (electrical) had snapped and was down in the brush behind of Brendans Auto Body Center. 38-9 arrived and comfirmed the report and had PeCO respond. Once PeCO arrived and verified the line was de-energized the crews went to work extinguishing the large brush fire. 38-9 had Engine Co. 56 dispatched as a precaution in case of any exposure issues. Units on scene: Engine 38, Squad 38, Engine 56, Squad 56, HT Fire Police, HTPD, Hav Car 1.
RIT/ Search & Rescue Drill
On Saturday, February 28th members from all five Township Companies participated in a Township wide drill. The aquired structure, thanks to the generosity of the Merion Country Club, on Ardmore Avenue was used for RIT/ Search & Rescue drills. The members were put through several scenarios throughout the day. The teams were mixed so everyone could get a chance to work with one another. Thank you to Capt. Gary Greenfield (Sta. 56/ employee of Merion Country Club) and the staff of the Merion Country Club for allowing the HTBF to use such a resource to this extent. Thanks to all the members of the HTBF that participated. Keep up the great work!!
Well wishes to members serving overseas
As you may know, or not, the Oakmont Fire Company has three members serving in the armed forces that are currently overseas. Pat Kelly, son of Mike Kelly, is stationed in Afghanistan. Corey and Eric Hatton are currently stationed in Iraq. Please keep them and their families in your prayers. The Board of Directors, Officers and Crew commend them for their service and hope for a speedy return to civilian life. God Bless and be safe!
Update on New Building
Construction Continues
Construction moves forward with the new building. Some pictures are attached to show the progress. The Oakmont Fire Company thanks all of the residents and businesses in the area for their understanding and cooperation during this much needed update to the building. Stay tuned for more details!!!!!
Early morning RIT run
Just before 7 am Companies 58,56 and 34 were dispatched to the 200 blk of Warrior Road for a dwelling fire. On the arrival of 58-9 he confirmed a working fire and re-dispatched the assignment adding EMS and RIT 38. Mid-day dwelling doused!
Just after 1 pm on January 22nd, Company 38 and Engine 35 were dispatched to the 800 blk of Aubrey Avenue for smoke coming from the dwelling. Police arrived quickly and confirmed heavy smoke from the 2nd floor front. 38-9B (Sava) arrived and confirmed the police report and ordered Squad 38, under the direction of Deputy Maguire, to go into service upon their arrival. Ladder 38 went into service with ventilation and as a back up crew to the Squad. Engine 35, under the direction of Chief Viola, was ordered to establish a water supply to Squad 38. Construction Update
Carbon Monoxide sends 3 to the hospital
On January 13th, 2009 around 0830 hours Company 38 was dispatched to 1911 Darby Road for an investigation. While enroute the FD was advised of possible carbon monoxide build up in the residence. On arrival of 38-9 (McGoldrick) he was greeted with (3) three victims on the ground in front of the quadreplex. He immediately summoned for the EMS to respond which brought Medic 108, 108a, 34-7, 34-7a, 56-7 and 56-7a.
On inital contact the residents were complaining of symptoms associated with exposure to CO (carbon Monoxide). Fireifghters quickly discovered levels of CO surpassing 240 ppm. The building was quickly ventilated and an urgent call went out to PeCO. The victims were all transported to local hospitals for treatment. Company 38 returned to service just after 0930 hours. Units on scene: Squad 38, Ladder 38, 34-7, 34-7a, 56-7, 56-7a, Medic 108, Medic 108a, HTPD, HT Fire Police and PECO.
