Passing of a Life Member

It is with great admiration that Oakmont Fire company celebrates the life of Former Chief Raymond Keller Jr. Chief Keller was a 50 year member of the company and thirty year member of the Haverford Township Police Department. His commitment to serving the people of Haverford Township was both inspirational and nothing short of exemplary. Joining Oakmont in 1951 “Ray” held the positions of Firefighter, Engineer, Captain, Assistant Chief, Chief, and Director. His time in the fire service spanned enough years to serve the length of two life memberships with the company and two and half life membership of the Haverford Township Relief Association. Chief Keller was also a member of the Delaware County Fireman’s Association and his legacy is carried on by his son, Firefighter/EMT Raymond “Skip” Keller III. The Chief was laid to rest at St. Denis Cemetery in Havertown with full firefighter’s honors and a police honor guard. His family asks that any contributions be made to either Oakmont Fire Company or The March of Dimes at the attn. of DRFR 1275 Mamaronieck Avenue, White Plains, NY 10605.

Cover Assignment Leads to Rescue in Radnor

While numerous companies from the tri-county area went to work on a commercial building fire in Radnor Township, Ladder 38 was requested along with Company 46 (Rocky Run) to cover Radnor for additional calls shortly after 12:00 PM. The companies responded to two calls in their time at the 15 house. Ladder 38 responded to a fire alarm and an elevator rescue call with confirmed entrapment on the 100 block of Lancaster Avenue. Upon arrival, a male occupant was found in good condition and freed from the car at 1:55 PM.

Standby for Peco

On July 31st, Contractors struck a four inch gas main at the intersection of Taylor Lane and Tunbridge Road. Engine 38 responded at 8:07 AM with Peco already en route. Upon fire crew’s arrival, utilities were quickly secured as the suppression team stood by without further incident. The Engine was available by 8:51 AM.

Company Called in for Man Power

On July 6th, the fire company was called upon to respond to a building fire reported on the unit block of Langhorne Avenue. Fortunately, all occupants were accounted for by police and along with Company 34 (Llanerch), Company 35 (Brookline) and Company 58 (Bon Air) fire crews went to work. Firefighters from Oakmont’s Engine 38 were sent to the second floor to suppress the flames and eventually overhaul the area with the fire placed under control shortly thereafter. Tiger’s Coming to Town

This week, Merion Country Club will be hosting the PGA’s finest golfers as world class talent competes on one of the U.S.’s most tradition rich golf courses. As thousands of golf fans descend upon Haverford Township, extra covered will be needed from the Police, Fire and EMS staff. Oakmont Fire Company will have the distinct honor of serving at the open and will be sending several fully staffed trucks to cover seven, sixteen hour days. The crews will man multiple posts on and off the course and a Joint Command Center has been constructed to facilitate extra communication between emergency services on site. This will not however take the company out of service as Oakmont will still be providing fire protection and rescue services as normal.
