On this evening the Oakmont Fire Company crew spent the night moving the apparatus and other equipment from the “old” firehouse into our new temporary station, “the tent.” The tent is 40’ wide and 80’ long. As you can see in the pictures it fits all four fire trucks and our protective gear. Other items that are not essential to the day-to-day operations mere moved into a trailer to the rear of the “old” fire house. The Oakmont Fire Company is on the move into the future. Though we expect some growing pains, service to the community will remain uninterrupted and with the utmost of professionalism. We would like to continuously thank you the Township Of Haverford, the local businesses and surrounding residents for their understanding and support during this transition period.

As most of you have found out the Oakmont Fire Company will be commencing construction on a state of the art firehouse facility. The “OLD” firehouse must have everything cleaned out by July 1st, so demolition can begin. The pictures below show members removing equipment and keepsakes from the existing station to be placed in the new building. Stay tuned throughout the summer to track the building process. The Oakmont Fire Company would like to thank the local businesses and surrounding residents for their understanding during this process of demolition and re-building.

Squad and Rescue 38 Assist Company 58

Just before 10 am units were dispatched to Glendale Road/Burmont Road for an auto accident with entrapment. On the arrival of FM-1 (Marino) he confirmed the entrapment and had the Rescue Companies expedite due to heavy entrapment. On arrival the crew of Squad 38 went to work on the drivers side of the vehicle, after stabilizing it. After removing the roof, both doors and the ‘B’ post on the drivers side, the patient was removed and transported to 56-7 where he was stabilized and transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for treatment. The companies were returned to service at approximately 11 am. Photos courtesy of HTPD.

Just after noon the call was received for one engine to assist HTPD and PENNDOT on Darby Road at the I-476 overpass. An extremely lucky dump truck driver had severely damaged the sound barrier at the overpass. PENNDOT was on scene and removing the remaining pieces that were hanging precariously from the overpass. The engine was available shortly before 3pm. Photo courtesy of HTPD.

Tonight all five Haverford Township fire companies participated in a drill at the Township’s fire tower. The training committee, made up of members from all five companies, drew up the plans for evening. Though the companies only completed three evolutions, the lessons learned were invaluable. The drill was observed and evaluated by all five Township chiefs. The OIC of each evolution were the junior officers from all five companies. The training committee would like to thank all members that participated and Brian Feeney for taking the time to record the whole event. Nice work everyone!, see you next time. From the Officers and Crew of the Oakmont Fire Company our sincerest condolences go out to the family of Lt. Nicholas Picozzi, Jr. and the Lower Chichester Fire Department. Nick made the ultimate sacrifice on March 5th, 2008 at the scene of a 3-alarm house fire in Upper Chichester Township. Nick was a 7-year member of the Lower Chichester Fire Department and was, like the rest of the firefighting community, extremely dedicated to what he volunteered to do. Rest in Peace.

This is the architects drawing of our latest project. This will be the new home of the Oakmont Fire Company when all is said and done. The new building will be erected on the same spot as the existing 82 year old firehouse currently stands. We have outgrown the existing building, which has served us well during the years. We are attempting to break ground sometime this year. Stay tuned for updates regarding the status of the construction.

This evening the fire crew and several surrounding fire company officials came to the station to celebrate the “changing of the guard.” After 20 years as fire chief William G. Hatton stepped down. His successor Robert J. “Mags” McGoldrick was appointed by the board of directors. It will be tough to fill Bill’s shoes, but Mags’ work is cut out for him. Thank you to Bill for all of your guidance and leadership and Good Luck to Mags, lead on!
